Spanish infrastructure builder and operator Ferrovial SE (BME:FER) has acquired a 257-MWp solar photovoltaic project in Leon County, Texas.
The group on Tuesday said it had signed the acquisition agreement, which included the construction and operation of the plant, without providing further details.
The project represents the first investment in the US renewables market by Ferrovial’s division Ferrovial Energy. Ferrovial’s team is currently in Texas, but as contractors, building a 72-MWp solar farm with a 60-MW battery storage system in Houston for global renewables firm X-Elio.
Ferrovial plans to invest USD 72 million (EUR 66.4m) in the Leon County project. Construction at the site is scheduled to begin during the current quarter.
The new solar farm is expected to start generating electricity in 2026. Once fully up and running, it will produce around 475 GWh per year.
